Virginia's Abandoned Presidents Busts
Early this year I went road tripping from Philadelphia to New Orleans. My first stop along the trip was a seemingly unremarkable field located just outside of Colonial Williamsburg. Hidden from the public sit 43 massive Presidential busts, left to weather the elements. Howard Hankins, the property owner, trucked the Presidential figures to his field in 2012 when the statues original home as a local historical park attraction was shuttered. Today, he is actively seeking funds to restore the statues to their former glory and to exhibit them to the greater public. Until then the statues will continue to eerily stare into the distance, the occasional trespasser or invited guest staring right on back.
